Early Years (1960s-1970s)
Established in late 1960's,soon after Meghalaya demanded statehood from Earstwhile Assam and post becoming an autonomous state within Assam. The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee had its first president in 1970 and notably Shri J E Tariang who was also instrumental in MPCCs work towards the statehood for Meghalaya, achieving it in 1972 with the Guidance and Blessing of our then Honourable Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi.
Growth and Expansion (1980s-1990s)
Notable leaders like Purno Agitok Sangma, S.C. Marak, and D.D. Lapang played key roles in further strengthening the Party and Congress won multiple assembly and Lok Sabha elections. MPCC focused Social and Economic Development in the initial Years with much emphasis on improving the quality of life of each and every citizen of the state. its thrust was on developing a robust education system, formidable healthcare, and infrastructure development.
